Bratislava, 5 November 2025 – SkyToll has begun construction works on the Croatian A3 motorway to erect the first portals of the new electronic toll system. The fully digital system is called Crolibertas and will be implemented on all Croatian motorways. Without having to stop to pay tolls, travelling on Croatian motorways will become faster, easier, and more modern.
The erection of the first seven portals on the A3 motorway on November 4, 2025, marked the start of another key phase of the project in Croatia. The project includes laying foundations, assembling the steel structure itself, replacing or installing new guardrails, carrying out electrical installations, and other related works. Construction activities will take place in multiple phases, during which traffic will be administered by temporary traffic measures. The works are planned for periods of lower traffic intensity, mainly in the evening and night hours.
The current phase of Crolibertas system implementation is a technically and infrastructurally demanding project, which includes:
Simultaneously with the installation of portals and the installation of technology (cameras and antennas), tests of the functionality of individual parts of the system will be carried out as well. After all installations are completed and connectivity is commissioned, comprehensive system testing will follow at the network level.
The new Crolibertas system will enable contactless toll collection for both passenger cars and lorries. The collection will be fully electronic, without the need to stop vehicles at the beginning or the end of a toll section. From a technical point of view, the system will be based on two key technologies:
The bid by the consortium of SkyToll and TollNet, both part of the ITIS Holding group, was selected as the most favourable one in a competition of ten bidders. The new toll collection system will be introduced on all Croatian motorways administered by Hrvatske Autoceste, Bina Istra and Autocesta Zagreb-Macelj.
