The satellite toll system, which was built and successfully launched on 1 December 2019 by CzechToll and SkyToll, celebrated its 5-year anniversary since its launch. The new toll collection technology was launched without any complications and without any toll collection outage. Massive preventive measures have also prevented traffic complications caused by carriers leaving the registration to the system to the last minute.

Since 1 December 2019, more than 72 billion Czech crowns have been collected by means of the satellite technology. The cost of building the toll system reached 1.945 billion CZK excluding VAT. The system was handed over to the Czech Republic on 22 November 2019 yet before its launch. With an operating cost of 7%, the CzechToll satellite toll system is one of the most efficient toll collection systems in the world.

A case study of the troublefree replacement of the old microwave technology for toll collection with a cutting-edge satellite solution caught the attention of literally the whole world. We have presented the project experience at a number of conferences on three continents around the world. The system has demonstrated a high degree of flexibility in implementing legislative changes and expanding the toll network, thus ensuring efficient collection of funds to cover a part of the investment in transport infrastructure in the Czech Republic.”

5 years of ETC in Czech Republic

In five years, the electronic toll system has processed 5.5 billion toll transactions. At peak times, the system collects tolls from 33,000 vehicles every hour.

Since its launch, the CzechToll ETC system has met all the quality parameters set out in the contract (the so-called SLA). One of the crucial ones include the efficiency of toll prescription. On a long-term average, CzechToll achieves an efficiency of 99.92% on motorways (the contract requires 99%) and 99.78% on 1st category roads (the contract requires 95%).

Since 1 December 2019, 1.1 million unique license plates have appeared at least once on toll roads. The system charges vehicles registered in a total of 77 countries. The most frequent vehicles with registration plates are from Poland (290 ths. unique LPNs), the Czech Republic (260 ths.), Germany (84 ths.), Romania (78 ths.) and Lithuania (56 ths.).
